To my grandchildren: 

A list of the things I would change if I could and pledge to you the things I will do from now on.

 

If I had my life to live over I would:

Be kinder to people who weren’t kind to me…they obviously needed someone to love them.

Swim with my children and play with the dog rather than just watch from my kitchen window.

Smile more than frown, avoiding the wrinkles and laugh more than cry, avoiding the tears.

Kiss and hug and hold and soothe…

While talking gently rather than instructing gruffly.

Not judge others and stop judging myself so harshly.

And plant flowers in the spring; let the sun warm me in the fall,

If I could change anything at all.

 

The good news is, the best reward I know, is that for the rest of my life I can remember to:

Show my love to everyone I meet.

Follow the Golden Rule as I try to treat other people like I would want them to treat me.  

Sing along with Anne Murray and not care who hears,

Dance in the garden with you and not care who watches,

Read when you ask me and not care the time.

Always expect you to wear your seatbelt and I will wear mine as we go in the car to explore.

Savor my time here on Earth and not waste a day in regret.

Say “I love you” before saying goodbye.

Pray, thanking God instead of asking Him for more.

Cherish you, your mommy and daddy, Aunt Beth and your Popi Doug…my gifts from God.

Give my money and my time to others who need it and ask my friends to do the same.

Recall my happy memories and forget the rest,

And …

Write my thoughts down on paper so you will know from the start,

What is in my soul, what is from my heart.
